Hi,
I bought I gpz305 but it dropped a valve which totalled the engine. I've rebuilt a spare engine and the bike is going lovely. The problem is that there seems to be some severe vibration on the left hand exhaust. Mainly it seems that the exhaust is vibrating against the main stand peg which the spring clips onto.
The bike is 1996 English spec.
Cheers

Make sure that the carbs are syncronised.. a vibration is mostly an effect of not syncronised carbs... |

Thats the same problem I have had. The main stand made at some rpm very loud noises. The problem was that a piece of 'gum' was missing. I can't explain it better. There is a hole in the main stand where this part is plugged in. On the picture you can see that hole, but that 'bumper' didn't cost much at my kawasaki dealer.
I can look for the bill so I can give you the part number if you want. |

I think the problem was the exhaust vibrating on the main stand peg which the spring fits onto. I've cut the peg off and this seemed to help. I also bought some vacuum gauages and synchronised the carbs which seems to have helped.
Both the carbarretttors now fluctuate between 7 and 11 Mercury inches. Does this seem right?
Also I think that my carbs are runnig too rich. Is there any way to measure if they are too rich apart from running it for a few hundred miles then looking at the plugs?
Cheers

Hi Phil
Vacuum gauge:
The vacuum must be equal between both cylinders at 3000 rpm or higher.
The measured value is not important, but the synchronization !
If it is not synchron above 2000 rpm, Your bike vibrates.
At idle-speed it can diversify, that is o.k.
But if You open the trottle it must be equal under any circumstances.
Mixture:
The consumption has to be about 3,5-4 litres/100km
Looking at the plugs:
light brown, pink or white with a touch of brown is o.k, but it should not be brown.
You can look at after 25km (engine and oil are warmed up completely) _________________ Grüsse

Ich hab auch keine Ahnung, hätte aber schwören können das er ein klappern vom Hauptständer am Auspuff meint, und Schuld daran war bei mir eben dieser fehlende Gummipuffer. |

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I synchronised the carbs at tick over not 3000rpm so it looks like I may have to redo it, though it looks ok at tickover.
I'll let you know how I get on

Hi,
I've synchronised the carbs at 3000rpm and the bike does seem alot smoother now. I noticed that even though they looked balanced at tickover, they were not balanced at 3000rpm. Thanks for the advice guys.
I have another problem. At tickover there is a knocking noise coming from the engine. When I pull the clutch in this stops it. Would I be right to assume this is the clutch thrust bearing?
