I had read a thread last year I believe was on Kawasaki twins forum about changing over to chain and sprockets. That forum is gone now so I'm hoping someone has info. My belt is frayed on the side and can't find a used or new one. HELP! |

Hi
Rear sprocket mountings are same for chain and belt
-> no problem changing
Front sprocket would be a little tricky
Kawa has changed the output shaft
- older ones had tooth with a nut; fixing sprocket with a special thoothed lock plate
- newer had a winding for the safety-nut holding the belt-sprocket
So if You want to convert from belt to chain You need:
- chain-kit for gpz305 (or sprockets from old Kawa like GPZ400; KZ250; KZ400... and chain-per-meter)
- Some selfmade securing plate
the front-sprocket must be adjusted with some washer on output shaft; teh original sprocket is not symmetrical but slightly dislocated away from engine to let the chain run in line
Look here: http://www.lothi.org/forum/gpz-305/viewtopic.php?t=810
and there: http://www.lothi.org/forum/gpz-305/viewtopic.php?t=1021
And check on Kwak USA homepage in Parts lists difference between EX305-B1 and KZ305-A1 transmission (transmission shaft end) _________________ Grüsse
