Hello everybody.Just happened to find this place whilst browsing the net. Nice to see a site dedicated to the 305. I have a 1988 , red one with 38000 miles on the clock. It still has the original engine and exhausts and goes like clockwork . |

Hi Shawsie
Glad to hear something from abroad.
Where are You from ?
My bike is a 1986 with about 72,000 km (45.000 miles or so). Colour could not be defined; the previous owner had an awful taste
Today the small bike has still the power as on its first day. I think this little bike it will survive more than 100.000 km !
Only thing which could happen to me in the next future is a breakdown of the gearbox: since 2000 km the 5th gear is jumping out from time to time
Despite the high rotation speed this small engine is running and running and runinng and...
Greetings to You

I have a 1993 Kawasaki GPZ 305. I think it's one of the latest models hence production stopped in 1994. Also the colour cannot be defined... mixture of red, blue, black, white... But I have a problem: after 25000 km the original transmission belt has broken and I cannot find a new one anywhere.
Speaking of engine and gearbox they still work perfectly. In fact after only 25000 km this is how they should work!
I would be greatfull if somebody would tell me where I can find an online shop for parts. My e-mail address is: radu_san@yahoo.com
Thank you,
Ride safe!

Hello Hellrider
I could ask a local dealer here in germany, but the belt would cost more than 300€.
This damned thing is very expensive, and I am afraid it would not last very long: the bike is out of production since 10 year and the rubber of the spare-part belts is also rotten more than 10 years in the spare-part store...
In Your case I would advice You to replace the belt with a chain.
The kit is not very expansive (in comparison with the belt).
The first models (EX305-A) had one, it was replaced later by the belt (EX305-B) without a change of the gearbox or the rear-wheel.
Only one difference was the screw-head of the pinion at the gearbox: The EX350-A has a shorter screw thread at the geart-box as the later models. The pinion for the belt is thicker than the pinion for the chain.
So it is not possible to change an old chain driven model to a belt drive.
But vice versa, as in Your situation, it is possible
Unfortunately I haven't made this exchange myself yet, so I cannot give You special hints.
But it was done in the past by some people.
I have phoned with Kawasaki Germany and they have confirmed that there is no significant change between the models EX305 A and B and it should be possible to do that change.
greetings
